Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a synthetic fluorpolymer of tetrafluorothylene that has 

numerous applications. The best known brand name of PTFE-based formulas is Teflon 

by DuPont Co., which discovered the compound.

PTFE is a fluorocarbon solid, as it is a high-molecular-weight compound consisting wholly 

of carbon and fluorine. PTFE is hydrophobic: neither water nor watercontaining substances 

wet PTFE, as fluorocarbons demonstratemitigatedLondon dispersion forces due to the high 

electronegativity of fluorine. PTFE has one of the lowest coefficients offriction against any solid.

PTFE is used as a non-stick coating for pans and other cookware. It is very non-reactive, 

partly because of the strength of carbonfluorine bonds and so it is often used in containers

 and pipework for reactive and corrosivechemicals. Where used as a lubricant,

PTFE reduces friction, wear and energy consumption of machinery. It is also commonly used 

as a graft material in surgical interventions.

Teflon Properties

Corrosion resistance: Except molten alkali metals, Teflon can withstand  fluoride medium and higher

 than 300 ℃ all acid sodium hydroxide (including fluoroantimonic acid, aqua regia), strong bases, 

strong oxidants, reducing agents and various organic the role of the solvent.

Insulation resistance: not affected by the environment and frequency, the resistivity of up to 

1018 ohm-cm, a small dielectric loss, high breakdown voltage.

High and low temperature: the influence of temperature changes little, wide temperature range 

range, temperature -190 ~ 260 ℃.

Self-lubricating: the smallest with a plastic friction coefficient, is the ideal oil-free materials.

The surface is not sticky: known solid materials can not adhere to the surface, is a minimal surface

 energy of solid materials.

Resistance to atmospheric aging, radiation resistance and low permeability: long-term exposure to 

the atmosphere, surface and performance remained unchanged.

Incombustibility: the limiting oxygen index of 90 or less.
